Tipon Archaeological Site

May 14, 2024 by wpgeditor

The Tipon Archaeological Site is a sprawling Inca complex located about 22 kilometers southeast of Cusco. This remarkable destination offers a blend of historical significance, architectural ingenuity, and stunning natural beauty.

Travelers will marvel at its sophisticated water management systems put together by advanced hydraulic engineering the Incas are known for. The site also showcases agricultural terraces, the Intihuatana, a 6-kilometer long defensive wall, royal enclosures, and the Cruzmoqo Viewpoint.

Since, Tipon is situated at an elevation of around 3,500 meters above sea level, it provides its visitors with panoramic views of stunningly verdant landscapes and a breathtaking view of the Sacred Valley.

There are trails around Tipon that lead to other archaeological sites which can be explored. Natural lighting in this site changes throughout the day providing varied photographic opportunities.

Practical Tips for Visiting Tipon:

  • Acclimatization: Given its high altitude, ensure you are properly acclimatized to avoid altitude sickness.
  • Time of Visit: Early morning or late afternoon visits can provide the best lighting for photography and fewer crowds.
  • Footwear: Wear comfortable walking shoes as the terrain can be uneven and involves some hiking.
